Remove the Ten Commandments

Remove The Ten Commandments? Why?

You can hear the whispers and innuendos about those Free Thinkers who should go lay down by their dish, those Free Thinkers who if they get their way, society spiral uncontrollably into some dark black hole of immoral behavior.

I've been reading all the editorials, the letters to the editor, listening to the radio shows and news. And I've yet to hear the second best reason I can think of to remove that stone from the front of city hall. Most Christians that I know do not know enough about their so-called Good Book and the Ten Commandments to know that these seemly innosent commandments (that Christians claim or nothing be common since) are nearly all capital crimes. The punishment for disobeying them is death. I wonder if our government chooses to implement that portion of those commandments, how many Christians would be in support of them? And you know, what really worries me is I know there are a few religious zealots out there who just happen to think putting people to death for worshiping other gods, for cursing god, for cursing your parents, or working on the Sabbath (whatever day that is Christians are confused about) would be a good thing.

And of course, since Christians and the city of Fargo (if Fargo decides not to remove this stone) wish to prop up the Old Testament as law to live by, try this one:

Duet 22:28-29 If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed (that is spoken for by another man), and lay hold (force) on her, and lie with her (that is have sex - forced sex being rape), and they be found; Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father (notice to whom damages are paid as OT women are the property of men) fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife.

Marrying her rapist of course might be the Happy Ending for this OT woman. If they are not discovered and the girl later goes to marry and it's found that she is not a virgin, she can be stoned to death (Duet 22:13-21).

How's that for a common sense law? Hey, it's Biblical. And with that said, I'll go lay down by my dish.

Oh - by the way, that black hole the morals of world will fall into if the Free Thinkers have their way, have you ever wondered why when Church and State sat in the same chair, it was called the Dark Ages? Maybe you think about that?
