Pass the Torch

Pass the torch
It’s an easy thing to do
Most people can’t help
But pass the torch to a few

I’ll pass this torch
This torch my life has made
Each ember adds the light
That shines me on my way.

Most people seem to rush this
It’s not the proper way
It’s best to pass it slowly
Await the proper day

Don’t wave it to get attention
It burns faster then, you’ll see
Hold still and look around you
See all that you can be

Cherish this paused moment
And the torch that shines our way
Until our curse, that wall before me
I meet my dying day.

I’ll pass this torch when I’m ready
There’s a few more things to do
I curse this wall that stops my looking
At what my torch light brings to view

But I’ll pass this torch without regret
It’s not that the torch is such a burden
It’s been a joy to me
It’s just that regrets are for the living
It’s the wall. It’s such a hurdle
It leaves regrets behind

I pass the torch
It’s all that’s left of me
Pass the torch
